Grupo ASAMAR was founded in 1932 by the engineers Alberto Woods Soares, Amynthas Jacques de Moraes, and Antônio Faria Ribeiro, inspired by the matriarch Emília Woods Soares (Alberto’s mother and Amyntas’s and Antonio’s mother-in-law), aiming to operate in the heavy public construction sector.
The Group’s first headquarters was established at Rua dos Caetés, 364, in Belo Horizonte/MG, purposefully on August 15th - which celebrates the Assumption of Our Lady - and became marked as the founding date of Grupo ASAMAR.
The Group’s name derived from the need for a telegraphic address (the fastest form of communication at the time). They created the acronym ASAMAR, composed of the initials of the three founders.
From paving the way with railway tunnels in Serra da Saudade, Minas Gerais, in the 1930s, to changing the country's history with the construction of Brasília, and supplying the future with clean and renewable energy sources such as biomass and solar, the Grupo ASAMAR has grown with Brazil.
